Sure Dan, you can make your own ball mill jar. I've wasted many hours doing it. The first one was ever so slightly too large to fit in the cradle. The second one was a hair too tall to fit. Finally got a good size and started ballmilling. The lid broke after about 20 hours. New lid, and back in business.

Josh, I am very interested to hear how you make out with your ball mill. I also have been planning to make one. I dig my own clay and have been using the slaking method. It does work, but, during a residency i did recently, I had access to a ball mill. I found you just cant beat it for making dry material for glazes and slips.

Learn to make your own BP and you'll pay for the tools to do so fairly quickly unless the igniters are all you are using it for. If that's the case the lack of burns and possible shrapnel when the grinder process goes bad will be like money in the bank. The ball mill won't be runnng at an optimum speed, but it should do just fine.
